Residents in parts of Madison County have been ordered to evacuate immediately as the rapidly growing Maze Fire continues to burn west of Rexburg, prompting concerns for public safety and nearby homes.
According to the Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center, the wildfire had expanded to more than 900 acres by 7:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters and emergency personnel remain actively engaged in efforts to contain the blaze, which has spread quickly due to dry conditions and other environmental factors.
In response to the growing threat, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office issued an urgent evacuation order for residents living on 6000 West between Idaho Highway 33 and 4000 North. Officials are stressing the seriousness of the situation and have directed residents to leave the area without delay.
“LEAVE NOW” and “DO NOT WAIT,” authorities emphasized in public alerts, underscoring the immediate danger posed by the advancing fire. Emergency officials are urging residents to gather essential belongings, secure pets if possible, and evacuate safely while roads remain accessible.
The evacuation order comes as crews monitor changing fire behavior and work to protect structures and critical infrastructure in the affected area. Additional resources may be deployed as conditions evolve and firefighters continue battling the blaze.
To assist displaced residents, an evacuation shelter has been established at the Henry’s Fork Stake Center, located at 1508 West 3000 North in Rexburg. The shelter is available for individuals and families forced to leave their homes and provides a safe location while emergency operations continue.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the affected area to allow emergency responders unrestricted access to roadways and firefighting operations. Residents outside the evacuation zone are encouraged to stay informed through official emergency notifications and local updates.
